Clearwater Man Busted For Selling Oxycodone To Undercover Cop

A Clearwater man wanted on numerous Florida arrest warrants for home invasion and dealing in stolen property was busted with cocaine while selling oxycodone to an undercover police officer Friday. Charles J. Corno was charged with resisting a law enforcement officer, possession of cocaine andoxycodone and sale of oxycodone. He is being held in Pinellas County Jail.

According to TampaBay.com the drug deal took place just after midnight. Corno sold the pills to an undercover Clearwater police officer. He was about to be arrested but took off. Police caught up with him after a short chase on foot. Corno has pending charges for robbery and aggravated assault in connection with the alleged home invasion.…

Florida Doctor Faces Charges Of Murder, Trafficking And Illegal Sales Of Prescription Drugs

A Palm Beach doctor has been indicted on charges of first-degree murder, prescription drug trafficking and illegal sales of anxiety drugs and painkillers. The investigation centered around three patients that died from an overdose. The charges come after eight months of looking into the practice of West Palm Beach doctor Sergio Rodriguez.

According to an AP story, investigators allege that Rodriguez, who prescribed pain killers and anxiety medication to adult patients out of his pediatric clinic in 2008, is responsible for three deaths. The illegal prescription drugs are believed to be what caused the the
deaths. He is currently in a Palm Beach County jail.…

Pharmacist Robbed Of Pain Killers And Xanax By Ex-Con In Pasco

A Pasco man who has been in prison for drug charges and theft may be on his way back. Ben B. Kaminsky has been charged with grand theft and failure to appear on charges of driving with a suspended license following an incident at Doctor’s Choice Pharmacy.

According to TampaBay.com Kaminsky tried to refill prescriptions for oxycodone, oxycontin and Xanax when the pharmacist realized the prescriptions were not eligible for a refill until next week. At that point the 32-year-old grabbed the pills and ran from the pharmacy. He was arrested at a motel where deputies found him while looking for his roommate who was charged with trafficking in oxycodone.…

Teen Alcohol And Drug Use On The Rise After Decade-Long Decline

After a decade-long decrease in usage, more teens are drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. In a new report the number of teens that admitted to smoking pot is up from 19% last month to 25% this month. The numbers of teens drinking rose 11%. It translated to an increase of about 700,000 teenagers drinking.

The use of ecstasy among teenagers is also on the rise according to the report published on TBO.com. The amount of teens using illegal prescription drugs or over the counter cough medicine did not increase and heroin use remained low at 5% according to the report.…

Prescription Drugs Lead To DUI Arrest On UCF Campus In Orlando

Police on the UCF campus in Orlando discovered a man asleep at the wheel of his car at 6:21 a.m. Sunday. Thomas Clyde Mastin, Jr. had more than 70 prescription muscle relaxants in his car at the time. He has been arrested and charged with DUI, possession of a controlled substance, sale or delivery of oxycodone, trafficking in oxycodone and other charges.

Mastin allegedly failed field sobriety tests but registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.00 on his breath test. He admitted to drinking at a bar in Casselberry where he worked and taking oxycodone earlier that day. The Orlando Sentinel is also reporting the man admitted to having alprazolam and carisoprodol on his possession for a bad back.…

There has been a noticeable effort to crack down on prescription drug fraud in Tampa Bay but the state of Florida has not helped law enforcement as it has taken a long time for Florida to react to the explosion in the prescription drug trade. According to TampaBay.com Florida is the top state in the nation for Oxycodone prescriptions. The newspaper goes on to state that Tampa Bay is a hotspot for prescription drug trafficking according to U.S. Drug Enforcement.

Oxycodone Sale Behind The DEA’s Arrest Of A Port Richey Cop

Yesterday news came out a Port Richey police officer was arrested by the DEA. Today details surrounding the arrest of James Ruland are starting to emerge. According to TBO.com Ruland was arrested for planning to sell oxycodone pills to a DEA informant. He is now in a Pinellas County Jail on charges of drug distribution.

Ruland was a sergeant with the Port Richey Police when he began meeting with a confidential informant to discuss selling the oxycodone pills. The two met three times this year and all three of those meetings were taped by the DEA informant. The two were scheduled to meet in Spring Hill where Ruland was scheduled to accept a $5,000 down payment for the drugs.…

Prescription Fraud Sting In Pinellas County Ends 10-Month Run With Just 20 Arrests So Far

Prescription fraud has gradually became the focus of Florida Law Enforcement over cocaine and marijuana as of late according to a story in the St. Pete Times. A recent 10-month drug investigation involving prescription drug fraud in Pinellas County resulted in impressive numbers. “Operation Pill Poppers” wound up with 150 counts of doctor shopping, 55,000 pills worth three-quarters of a million dollars and 74 suspects. The problem, as of yesterday there were only 20 arrests made.

The prescription drug crimes division for Pinellas County has doubled in size in hopes of battling the growing problem of prescription drug fraud. With no statewide prescription computer system, doctor shopping and prescription fraud is a growing problem in Florida.…
