Sarasota Homicide Detective Arrested For Illegally Obtaining Prescription Painkillers

Sgt. Chris Hallisey has been arrested for illegally acquiring prescription painkillers. The Sarasota homicide detective is accused of lying to doctors to obtain illegal prescription drugs. According to a report on My Fox TampaBay, Hallisey was under investigation by his own department for several weeks.

The story details how deputies contacted doctors who they believed supplied oxycodone to the homicide investigator who was the lead detective in the murder of Carlie Brucia. He was hired by the sheriff’s office in 1980 and has been placed on administrative leave. He is out on $360 bond.…

Prescription Fraud Sentences Handed Out By Federal Judge In Pinellas

A group of five people involved in a Pinellas prescription drug ring were sentenced to prison terms ranging from nearly four years to seven years. The prescription fraud involved the painkiller oxycodone. All five of the participants pled guilty to charges of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of oxycodone.

The prescription fraud involved the manufacturing of fake prescriptions that had valid DEA numbers on them. The group would supply cell phone numbers to the doctors who allegedly wrote the prescriptions but the calls went to co-conspirators not doctors. The fake prescriptions for the painkillers were submitted at three Pinellas pharmacies.…

Teenage Girl Arrested On Drug Charges For Selling Prescription Pills At Her High School

A 17-year-old high school student is under arrest in Hernando County for selling prescription drugs at her high school. Laura Sitaro was arrested at Central High School in Hernando Beach on Monday and was taken to Hernando County jail. According to 10Connects.com, the girl has admitted to selling
Xanax
and other pills.

According to police reports, Sitaro said she had been selling the pills for about a week and along with Xanax she was selling Flexural and Coricidin. The pills were being sold for anywhere from $2 to $5. Coricidin is an over-the-counter drug for pain-relief and allergies. Flexural is a prescription drug for muscle spasms.…

Oxycodone Robbery At Spring Hill Drug Store Ends Up With Man Arrested But No Pills

The epidemic of crime surrounding prescription drugs just keeps growing. The cases range from prescription fraud to illegal sales of painkillers and anxiety medication. More and more the crimes are turning violent. Today a man was the victim of an attempted robbery outside a Spring Hill drugstore after filling an oxycodone prescription.

According to Hernando County Sheriffs Aurelio Gonzalez pulled a knife on the man after he was approached by a woman asking him to sell her some of his oxycodone pills. There is no mention in the TampaBay.com story if the woman was charged as well. She reportedly drove the alleged robber from the scene after the victim ran off with his drugs.…

Bradenton Drug And Weapon Charges Filed Against A Man Passed Out In Front Of A Nightclub

A Cadillac parked in front of a Manatee bar after 3:00 a.m. drew the suspicion of a sheriff’s deputy early Friday morning. A Manatee County Sheriff’s deputy spotted the car parked outside the Distellery. When she pulled up the engine was running and Adam C. McDemid was passed out behind the wheel.

According to the deputy, she saw a marijuana pipe in plain view and then had the 32-year-old exit his car. At that point she reported smelling burnt marijuana. The deputy searched the vehicle and found a loaded handgun under the seat. The gun was reported stolen according to the report on Bradenton.com.…

Prescription Drug Fraud Charges Filed Against Hernando Corrections Officer

Chris Abare is under arrest for collecting prescriptions for more than 2,000 oxycodone pills from nine doctors in a period of just over six months. The Hudson man was arrested on prescription fraud charges for not informing the doctors he had received prescriptions for oxycodone from other physicians as well.

Abare is an employee of Corrections Corporation of America, a private company with workers serving at the Hernando County Jail. According to TBO.com Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies have sworn statements from five doctors that they were unaware Abare had contacted other doctors and received oxycodone prescriptions. The story reports Abare stockpiled nearly 2,200 oxycodone tablets in a seven-month period.…

Prescription Drug Fraud And Trafficking Charges Filed in Pinellas Against Twin Brothers

Pinellas County Sheriff’s arrested three people on charges of prescription drug fraud, two of which were twin brothers. TBO.com is reporting that Alberto and Aldo Jogan have been charged with conspiracy to traffic in oxycodone. Aldo Jogan’s girlfriend was also arrested on trafficking charges. Other charges for the brother’s included possession of cocaine, prescription fraud and possession of other controlled substances.

According to the newspaper report, the trio created fake prescription forms, forged signatures and then had others fill the prescriptions for them. Once they had the painkillers in hand, they made arrangements to sell the pills. The three suspects were on the radar of investigators since 2008 but it wasn’t until one of the three was the victim of a recent home invasion at a Treasure Island motel that police were able to locate the group.…

Punta Gorda Mom Facing Drug Charges For Meth And Xanax Found In Her House

Police officers in Punta Gorda were called out to check on the health of the mother of a three-month-old infant and during the wellness check they found meth, Xanax and drug paraphernalia. According to the HeraldTribune.com, Mandy Cheri McLean was charged with drug possession for having methamphetamine and Xanax without a prescription. She was taken to jail and was being held on $6,000 bail.

Police officers report that McLean did not respond when they knocked on her door and entered the home to check on the woman. According to police reports she was found passed out. There was allegedly a bag containing meth and a glass pipe.…

Mother High On Illegal Painkillers Allegedly Leaves Her Baby On The Side Of A Busy Road

Clearwater police are claiming that a woman on probation for credit card fraud and failure to appear in court was so high on illegal painkillers that she left her two-year-old on the side of a busy road on a night when temperatures outside were as low as 54 degrees. Jamie Michelle Campbell has been charged with child neglect, possession of a controlled substance, violation of probation and tampering with evidence. She was booked into Pinellas County Jail.

According to TampaBay.com after Campbell was taken to her probation officer for the child neglect charges she tried to dispose of illegal painkillers in the back of the police cruiser and also in her probation officer’s toilet while being tested for drugs use.…

Xanax Hidden In A Man’s Fat Rolls Smuggled Into Hernando County Jail

Thomas Althoff was taken to Hernando County Jail on charges of driving with a suspended license. He is now in more trouble. According to TampaBay.com the 33-year-old was caught snorting a Xanax pill he snuck into the jail cell under a fat roll at the bottom of his stomach. He is now facing a charge of possessing contraband in jail for the prescription pill and driving while license suspended.

It is being reported a deputy saw the 33-year-old attempting to snort a crushed pill. Althoff originally said he found the anxiety pill in the cell. He later told officers of how he snuck the drug into jail inside a fat roll.…
