Starting Thursday many Florida businesses will be banned from selling a bong. The new law is being challenged in a Hillsborough County court by small business owners.

Sarasota Homicide Detective Arrested For Illegally Obtaining Prescription PainkillersSgt. Chris Hallisey has been arrested for illegally acquiring prescription painkillers. The Sarasota homicide detective is accused of lying to doctors to obtain illegal prescription drugs. According to a report on My Fox TampaBay, Hallisey was under investigation by his own department for several weeks. The story details how deputies contacted doctors who they believed supplied oxycodone to the homicide investigator who was the lead detective in the murder of Carlie Brucia. He was hired by the sheriff’s office in 1980 and has been placed on administrative leave. He is out on $360 bond.… March 26, 2010
Manatee Drug Raid Results In Arrest For Crack CocaineWhile the details are sketchy at the moment, Bradenton.com is reporting that drug charges have been filed against a Manatee County man following a SWAT raid at his duplex. The raid took place early this morning and the arrest was made after discovering crack cocaine in the duplex. There was an ongoing investigation into drug activity at the duplex. Detectives obtained a search warrant to conduct the raid. The man who was arrested on the drug charges was being booked into Manatee County Jail. His name has not been released yet nor have the specific drug charges. The raid took place at a duplex on 19th Street West and 57th Avenue West.… March 17, 2010
Suspected Sarasota Crack Dealers Arrested In Drug Sting In Charlotte CountyAccording to police reports and a story form the Sarasota Herald Tribune, two Sarasota men have been arrested for on drug charges for arranging to sell crack to undercover police officers. Police reports indicate that a confidential informant was involved in the sting operation that resulted in the arrest of Edward N. Johnson and Gregory Gillespie for tampering with evidence, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and false imprisonment. The two men are accused of arranging to sell crack to Charlotte County sheriff’s detectives and then keeping the police’s confidential informant against his will in the back of their Cadillac once the drug deal went bad.… March 17, 2010
Cocaine Trafficking Charges Filed Against St Pete Man On Probation For Federal Drug ConvictionAuthorities identified Justin Richardson as a major coke dealer in St Pete and now the 29-year-old is under arrest. According to TBO.com, Richardson, who is on probation for federal drug charges, will be back in federal court to face new cocaine trafficking charges. Richardson is scheduled to be in U.S. District Court in Tampa today for a bail hearing on charges of conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute. Richardson is currently on probation from a conviction in Texas for sending five pounds of pot and several kilos of cocaine to St Pete via DHL in 2004. The cocaine ring has connections to Mexico and Sarasota according to police reports and Richardson also reportedly sold a Tampa man upwards of 10 kilos of cocaine over the last several months.… March 15, 2010
Manatee Deputies Arrest Man For Robbery That Almost Cost Victim His EarCorey Shane Holland was booked into Manatee County jail on charges of robbery and battery on a law enforcement officer. The 21-year-old had his bond set at over one million dollars. Holland is accused of robbing and assaulting a man in a drug deal gone bad. He robbed his would-be pot dealer and almost severed the man’s ear. The incident took place on Wednesday when Holland was allegedly going to purchase marijuana from the victim. Holland instead attacked the man, stole his wallet and a large amount of weed according to police. He was arrested Thursday after assaulting a police officer and fleeing from the attempted arrest.… March 12, 2010
Clearwater Man Busted For Selling Oxycodone To Undercover CopA Clearwater man wanted on numerous Florida arrest warrants for home invasion and dealing in stolen property was busted with cocaine while selling oxycodone to an undercover police officer Friday. Charles J. Corno was charged with resisting a law enforcement officer, possession of cocaine andoxycodone and sale of oxycodone. He is being held in Pinellas County Jail. According to TampaBay.com the drug deal took place just after midnight. Corno sold the pills to an undercover Clearwater police officer. He was about to be arrested but took off. Police caught up with him after a short chase on foot. Corno has pending charges for robbery and aggravated assault in connection with the alleged home invasion.… March 11, 2010
Bradenton Drug Deal Goes Bad And Ends In Robbery And AssaultA marijuana deal in Bradenton between 19-year-old Nicholas Smith and 21-year-old Cody Holland ended up with a robbery and assault. Smith was the victim of a robbery as Holland allegedly stole his wallet and marijuana after smashing the 19-year-old in the head and nearly severing his earlobe. Manatee County Sheriff’s say the two men set up the drug deal at Smith’s Bradenton home. After deputies arrived at Smith’s home he claimed the robbery and drug deal took place outside of the house.
