According to police reports and a story form the Sarasota Herald Tribune, two Sarasota men have been arrested for on drug charges for arranging to sell crack to undercover police officers. Police reports indicate that a confidential informant was involved in the sting operation that resulted in the arrest of Edward N. Johnson and Gregory Gillespie for tampering with evidence, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and false imprisonment.
The two men are accused of arranging to sell crack to Charlotte County sheriff’s detectives and then keeping the police’s confidential informant against his will in the back of their Cadillac once the drug deal went bad. Despite trying to dump the evidence on the street, detectives recovered most of the crack and the police informant was not harmed.
